Simple Chocolate Cake

Chocolate cake is one of the most popular types of cakes with Natioal Chocolate Cake day being celebrated every year on the 27th of January. The history of this widely loved cakes goes back to the invention of chocolate in 1764. In 1879, an easier way to bake with chocolate was found and chocolate was inserted into cake batters to make chocolate cake.
The following recipe is a very simple way to make chocolate cake without using cake mix:
Servings: Serves 8
Time: 65 minutes
Ingredients:
1 1/3 cups brown sugar
3/4 cups milk
125 g butter, cubed
50 g cocoa powder
1/4 tsp bicarbonate soda
1 cup self raising flower
2 tbs plain flower
3 eggs lightly whisked
Method:
Preheat oven to 160°C and line pan with baking paper after lightly greasing it with butter.
Place sugar, milk and butter in a large saucepan. Use sieve to sift cocoa powder and bicarbnate soa in the mixture.
Place saucepan on medium-low heat and whisk it until it is smooth. Leave for 5 minutes to cool down slightly. Do not let the mixture boil
Once cooled, sift half of the plain and self-raising flours into the mixture and whiskk until smooth. Repeat again with the remaining flour. Add eggs and continue to stir using the whisk until the mixture is well combined. Note: This step is not done over heat
Pour the mixture into the cake pan and gently tap the pan on the bench to esure all air ubbles are removed. Bake in the oven for roughly 45-55 minutes or until a skewer placed in t comes out clean.
Set the cake aside until it has cooled in order to add icing.
